About our response to the corona virus

Is this nature, knocking at the door of our hearts and minds?

If so, may we open those doors,
to look, to listen, to learn - and to act.

About 'knowing you, knowing me'

The title of this Abba song has intrigued me for a long time and has, to my mind, relevance to my blog. Whatever thoughts, opinions, views I write, however inconsequential or trivial they may be, are a reflection of me. If you should be interested enough to follow them, you are 'learning me'.

As we 'learn' each other, we 'learn' ourselves, I feel. I would love to think that I might be a little point of reference in the 'landscape of someone's life', however unknowingly. So here's to "knowing me, knowing you - aha", now and in time to come, hopefully.

About silence - strength or weakness

Sometimes silence is strength
and sometimes silence is weakness.

May we learn to judge which is which -
and have the strength to act accordingly.

About the joy of our electric blanket

We live in a typically long and narrow Victorian semi and our bedroom is, without any shadow of a doubt, by far the coldest room in the house. Therefore, it goes without saying that an electric over-blanket is one of the necessities of our existence.

Nothing beats the bliss of climbing into bed on a cold winter's night to remove the last items of clothing to be discarded (it being an impossibility to remove all one's outer garments before being in the shelter of the bedding) and then snuggling down to feel the warmth of the blanket.

Each night finds me uttering such words as "this is heaven" or "this is my favourite moment of the entire day!"

Much as I love being in bed, I often muse on the fact that it's only in the winter that I appreciate this warmth. In the summer, when even I don't think about turning the blanket on, it's far more likely that I just take bedtime for granted.

In other words, we need to experience 'cold' to truly appreciate 'warmth'. Sometimes, it is only the absence of something which makes us aware of its presence.

A list of things that are worth paying good money for.

I'm as happy as the next person to buy a bargain but there are some things which are the 'real deal'  and are definitely worth paying a higher price for because they really are light years better than cheaper versions.

These are top of my list:
  • Jam
  • Fairy liquid
  • Sellotape
This is not a definitive list and I'd love to think that anyone who happens to view this post might add to it, as I hope to when other items come into my head.

Some more thoughts for parents

Whatever you do, dear parents, please do not make your children the centre of your lives because, one day, they'll be off doing their own thing - and this is right - but you do not want it to leave an unfillable hole in yours.

Make each other the centre of your lives and that will be the best gift you can give them to help them fly off from solid ground and that security will stay with them all their lives.

A PS for single parents, of which I was one for the best part of ten years when my three children were very young; I always made sure that they knew that I had friends and a life of my own so that they wouldn't worry about or feel responsible for me and would feel free to have their own lives.

In two out of the three cases, it went well. Well, you can't win them all, can you.

A thought for this new covid day - or any day, actually

Isn't it good to have someone to hold on to,
someone who is always there, someone who will stick by you
through thick and through thin, come what may.
